I took a long time when deciding which laptop to go with and am VERY VERY happy with my decision. Originally I was going to go with the Sony Vaio, which is by no means a bad computer. After talking to some friends 3/4 suggested the acer over the Vaio because of the screen size and quality. I don't think I know anybody who's had real issues besides the battery with an Acer Aspire. I love the keyboard and the mouse could use some improvement, but no complaints since I have a USB one anyways.
